Defective from day one.... September 7, 2010 CM The camera I received was defective from day one. It will work perfectly until it goes into sleep mode. After that, it is unable to 'wake up' and is completely dead.
I tested the camera several times the day I got it and thought it was great, but I was not waiting very long between pictures. It was only after I left it in the woods for 3 weeks, that I discovered the problem. VERY DISAPOINTINED.....
It appears the camera enters sleep mode 5-10 mins of no activity.
After the fact, I checked online and this appears to be a common problem. Too bad for me.... :(
Terrible pictures August 21, 2010 Ames Gilbert (Grass Valley, CA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Here are some facts after using this camera for a year.
First, the picture is definitely not 4 megapixels quality (I have an old 3 megapixel camera to compare it with, and I'd say it is more like 0.4 megapixel, with quality like a still taken from a video). The picture also is often severely banded, and if taken at a time of day with sunshine and shadows, washes out the light parts almost completely.
Secondly, it is a power hog. I bought rechargeable NiMh D cell batteries (it takes six at a time), and these must be replaced about every ten days.
But the worst fault is that the camera keeps turning itself off. I take the card out each Saturday to see what has been going on around my pond (my wife and I are keen naturists), and my diary says that about three quarters of the time, the card has pictures from the first day or two, then nothing for the rest of the week.
So, save your money for something better, this is not worth your while. The pictures are good enough you can tell that "it is a deer", but nothing more.
Very, very disappointing.
moutrie game camera August 18, 2010 David Wittkamp (JACKSON, OHIO, US) we haven't used it as yet but many people have told us it's a very good one and we are looking forward to seeing what's in our backyard at night while we're sleeping.

Problem with Moultrie D 40 August 15, 2010 Woodworker (VT) I was given this camera almost 2 years ago. I first noticed that the elastic cords for attaching it to a tree with too weak so I used stronger, and longer, shock cords. Soon two of the plastic tabs broke but I was able to rivet some metal ones on that worked okay. The camera was taking adequate photos until it suddenly quit a couple of weeks ago. I tried calling their technical support center but was told that there would be a wait of 49 minutes. I then found their website and emailed them although they said they could not respond for 4-5 days. That was almost 2 weeks ago. I have written the supplier who sold the camera for their assistance although I don't expect to receive any. I would advise anyone who wants a game camera to avoid this product and find another manufacturer. Also, try www.chasingame.com to find reviews on other products.
